NJPW has announced that one of their champions has had their title stripped in a shock announcement made this evening via Twitter.
Posting this evening (June 10) the announcement reads:
“Juice Robinson stripped of IWGP US Championship, Will Ospreay, SANADA to contest vacant title at Dominion.”
While NJPW Global, the official account for NJPW posted a tweet with a link, the news page it links to on their website is currently unavailable so at this time, a further official statement is likely forthcoming.
As we previously reported, Juice Robinson missed the June 3 Best of the Super Juniors final event after he was rushed to the hospital to be treated for appendicitis. That same show, former champion SANADA announced his return from injury, vowing to recapture the gold at Dominion.
Tonight also marked the in-ring television debut for Will Ospreay in AEW as he and Aussie Open taking on FTR and Trent Beretta. While the NJPW stars eventually fell to the AEW crew, the match was both fun to watch, being technically impressive as well as able to convey remarkable emotion for some characters that quite literally just appeared on AEW television.
