The feud between Randy Orton and ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt from late 2020 – WrestleMania 37 is considered one of the more infamous angles in recent WWE memory.
The story was even more confusing when the Fiend made his return to the ring at WrestleMania 37, only to lose to Randy Orton in what would ultimately end up being the last match of his WWE career.
Fightful Select (subscription required) has provided an update on the situation, noting that one of Wyatt’s major points of frustration in the company came during that match/storyline, as things were changed days before the match.
One person who worked on the match and story said ‘no one at any point among the journey… once… had a f*cking clue as to what the f*ck was supposed to happen. The finish changed the day before, they’d bragged a surprise. Randy Orton was supposed to lose and have months off.”
Instead, Wyatt was effectively done in WWE. The person who Fightful spoke with effectively confirmed there was never a long-term plan by the Vince McMahon regime for the resolution of the story, which frustrated those involved in it, as it was heavily featured.
