NXT star Josh Briggs and AAA World Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid worked tonight’s WWE Main Event taping ahead of Raw.

Matches for Main Event are generally taped before Raw and/or SmackDown each week and air on WWE’s YouTube channel every Thursday.

Tonight’s Main Event taping played host to a match featuring NXT star Josh Briggs, who faced Otis.

While an NXT star appearing on WWE Main Event can sometimes be a precursor to a main roster call-up, it isn’t always the case and it isn’t uncommon for NXT talents to work Main Event and then simply continue in NXT.

However, it does come in the midst of a number of main roster call-ups with Ethan Page, Sol Ruca, Joe Hendry, Fatal Influence and Ricky Saints all joining Raw and SmackDown over the past week.

Briggs has been in NXT since August 2020, so coming on six years now, and is a former NXT UK Tag Team Champion alongside Brooks Jensen.

Another notable appearance tonight was from AAA Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid, who faced Joaquin Wilde.

Laredo looks to have kicked off something of a feud with Rey Fenix on this past Saturday’s WWE AAA episode, as he told Fenix:

“I think that you’re just jealous because you don’t have a championship like your brother.”

That was of course in reference to Fenix’s brother Penta who is the WWE Intercontinental Champion, retaining his title at WrestleMania in the six man ladder match against Je’Von Evans, Rusev, Rey Mysterio, JD McDonagh and Dragon Lee.

Tonight’s episode of Raw plays host to Penta vs Rusev after last week saw Penta run in to save Evans from a two-on-one attack by Rusev and Ethan Page.
