Real Reason For Real-Life Heat Between CM Punk & Hangman Page AEW

The real reason for the real-life heat between CM Punk and Hangman Page has been revealed.

At the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view, CM Punk defeated Hangman Page to win the AEW World Championship.

Fightful Select (subscription required) reports that there was word that the two men didn’t see eye to eye on some promo material that emerged on an episode of Dynamite that built their match.

The report notes that this led to CM Punk meeting with AEW higher ups about the context of Hangman’s promo. Voices of Wrestling reported that Punk had told others after the meeting in May that he wouldn’t lose to Hangman Page.

The belief among several on the roster that Punk believed Hangman went into business for himself leading to their Double Or Nothing match, and that Punk may have viewed his August 17 promo as a “receipt.”

On the August 17 edition of Dynamite, CM Punk took an off-script jab at Hangman Page, calling him out to the ring for a rematch and then calling him a coward for not answering the challenge.

From Punk’s end of things, there was a Hangman promo that alluded to Punk’s issues with Colt Cabana and didn’t sit well with the AEW World Champion.

There was also another promo that happened on a week that Punk wasn’t at the show that accelerated it.

Sources said that Punk’s shot at Hangman Page happened with Page present, and that’s how the person close to Punk justified it.

As previously noted, the report also revealed the backstage reaction to CM Punk’s off-script jab at Hangman Page.
