Taking to the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has revealed the real reason why Ryo Mizunami won the Japenese side of the AEW Women’s Eliminator tournament.
Meltzer is reporting that Ryo Mizunami was selected to win the Japanese side of the tournament because she, unlike the other members of the Japanese bracket, was planning on coming to America:
“Basically Ryo Mizunami won because she’s the one coming to this country. The other ones were not. So even if you want to say that others could be better, she was the one.”

It is obviously important for Ryo Mizunami to be able to come to the US as she’ll have to face Nyla Rose, who defeated Thunder Rosa last night to win the US side of the tournament, on AEW Dynamite tomorrow night.
At this stage, it unclear whether or not Ryo was picked to win the Japanese side of the tournament solely because AEW needed her to come over to Japan, or if the promotion viewed her as the right winner, but the fact she was planning on coming to the States would have been important.
