Here’s why Tay Conti has undergone an on-screen name change.
Tay and her new husband Sammy Guevara are slated to defend their AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship against Dante Martin & Skye Blue on the August 12 edition of Rampage.
The graphics promoting the bout now list the AEW star as ‘Tay Melo’, not Tay Conti.
Conti was actually the surname of Tay’s ex-husband. While the duo went public with their divorce in 2021, Tay kept the surname on TV, which she had used in wrestling since 2017.
The star’s full birthname was Taynara Melo de Carvalho. In WWE, she went by Tayanara Conti, before joining AEW as Tay Conti in 2020.
Following Tay and Sammy Guevara getting married this past weekend, Tay appears to be using her pre-marriage surname on TV moving forward.
The upcoming AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship bout will be Tay’s first AEW bout since Double or Nothing in late-May.
