Rhea Ripley Weighs In On Major WrestleMania 39 Debate WWE

Following WrestleMania 39, much of the debate was naturally surrounding WWE’s then-shocking decision to have Cody Rhodes fall in his quest to dethrone Roman Reigns in the night two main event.

However, there was one other highly disputed topic, that being the decision to have Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs The Usos headline the first night of the Mania weekend proceedings over the Smackdown Women’s Championship match between Charlotte Flair and 2023 Women’s Rumble winner Rhea Ripley.

While Charlotte herself and her father Ric Flair voiced their disagreement with WWE’s decision to go with the Undisputed Tag Title match as the main event, surprisingly the now current Smackdown Women’s Champion Ripley doesn’t quite agree with the queen’s assessment.

Speaking to Mark Andrews on ‘My Love Letter to Wrestling’ Ripley gave her two cents surrounding the debate, agreeing that the tag Tiel match deserved to get the nod.

Ripley said:

“Charlotte and I think we were more competitive towards — I wanna say the tag main event,”

“Just because normally it’s the two Rumble winners that get the main event.”

The common reason as to why many fans believed Zayn and Owens vs The Usos deserved the spot was the quality of the story leading into the match, something that could not be said for Ripley vs Flair.

This reasoning is something Ripley wholeheartedly agrees with, admitting that the build between herself and Flair wasn’t the best in comparison to the Bloodline story arc.

Ripley said:

“I understand why we didn’t, because we didn’t really have that good story build going into it like the Bloodline did with Sami and Kevin,”

“So, I 100% agree on that decision. But there was that side where you’re like, ‘Well, I’m gonna prove a point and be like follow that.'”

As well as being competitive with the tag title match, Ripley also revealed how herself and Flair wanted set the bar high on night one so Bianca Belair and Asuka had a hard act to follow on night two.

While the match was hailed as perhaps the best of the Mania weekend by many fans, there was something that didn’t go in occordence to Ripley’s original plan for the night.
