Ricochet SHOOTS On Keeping His Name!

Ricochet SHOOTS On Keeping His Name!

Ricochet is known as the ‘One and Only’ in NXT. How fitting when you consider this superstar once worried about whether or not he would be able to keep his ring name after entering the company.

Thrilling NXT audiences with his high-flying offense, the marvel recently gave an interview to Scott Fishman of TV Insider. Among a variety of topics covered in the interview, Ricochet said he was glad when he didn’t have to give up the name ‘Ricochet,’ something which he has established for the last 15 years.

“It was cool because the last 15 years of my life has been about trying to build up a name. When I got to WWE, there was some rumblings about changing it. I was okay with that because it has worked in the past, and I had a few choices lined up. But when they said I was able to keep it, it meant the world to me because it was definitely a name I put my blood, sweat and tears in building. I built my own name. All the hard work built up to this.”

Something that has changed, said Ricochet, is the way he looks at and thinks about the business. This is something he credits Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Scotty 2 Hotty at the Performance Center with.

“They’ve all helped me a lot and shown me how to look at wrestling totally different, in the best way possible. Just about the timing, having positioning. Top to-bottom, in the ring and out of the ring, I’m looking at it in a whole new space of mind. I think it’s for the better.”

A lot of WWE wrestlers have been able to keep the names they used before signing with the company. AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Adam Cole spring to mind. Others, however, have had to change their names, often in a small, seemingly meaningless way. See Daniel Bryan and Kevin Owens. Whatever the case may be, a change in name will not slow down a talented enough wrestler.

Ricochet challenges Adam Cole this Saturday at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn for the NXT North American Championship.
