Roman Reigns Hopes SummerSlam Will Be The Last Time He Faces Brock Lesnar

Roman Reigns Hopes SummerSlam Will Be The Last Time He Faces Brock Lesnar WWE

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has explained why he hopes that the SummerSlam main event will be his last match with Brock Lesnar.

During Saturday’s (July 30) premium live event, Reigns will defend his gold against Lesnar in a Last Man Standing match.

Reigns notably unified the WWE and Universal titles after defeating Lesnar in a Winner Takes All match at WrestleMania 38 in April.

The announced match has been criticised by fans who are bored of seeing Reigns and Lesnar face off.

Speaking on NBC’s TODAY show, Reigns pointed out that if he defeats Lesnar at SummerSlam, he will have bested Lesnar in three straight title bouts, following Crown Jewel 2021 and WrestleMania 38.

Hopeful that the rivalry will be over soon, Reigns said:

“I feel great. I’m on a course now to do something that no one has ever done, dominate Brock Lesnar. We’re entering that kind of timeframe in my career where I’m pushing myself to a different level and trying to achieve things that have never been done before. Anytime you can beat Brock Lesnar three times in a row, that’s pretty good. That’s a feather in the cap.

“I hope it’s the last time. It hurts. It’s brutal being in the ring with Brock. He’s a big ol’ country boy, and he’s got such a great, legitimate background. He started as an amateur wrestler, all the way through the collegiate ranks, into the UFC Heavyweight Champion. He’s dominated WWE for a long time. The only problem he has is Roman Reigns showed up and took over. It’s going to be great.”

Reigns returned to the ring on Monday’s (July 25) edition of WWE Raw, teaming with The Usos to score a victory over Riddle & the Street Profits.
