WWE Star Addresses Recent Character Change, Reveals Roman Reigns & Paul Heyman Influence

A WWE star has addressed his recent character change and detailed the influence of Roman Reigns & Paul Heyman over his promos.

After spending the entirety of his four years on the WWE main roster as a heel, Solo Sikoa has slowly began gaining more and more fan support, with the former ‘Enforcer’ of The Bloodline showcasing an increasingly light-hearted and humorous side to his character in recent weeks.

Solo’s burgeoning popularity was evident during his match at last night’s WWE SummerSlam Night One event in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as the former United States Champion earned loud “Solo” chants after stealing his brother Jey Uso’s ‘Yeet’ encore performance.

Speaking to Sam Roberts on WWE Now after he, LA Knight and Royce Keys defeated The Bloodline’s Jacob Fatu and The Usos, Solo was asked whether he’s felt the increase in fan support lately.

Solo responded:

“I did man. It’s been a long journey, coming from the silent assassin, from not talking for two years to transforming into playing The Tribal Chief character. You got to see a little bit of personality, and then being the leader in The MFTs you’re starting to see a little bit more and then I got to be myself two weeks ago.”

Solo would then explain how his time spent in silence in The Bloodline was actually a period of time where he studied Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman’s approach to promos, something that set him up for when he eventually broke out on his own post WrestleMania 40:

“A lot of the fans don’t understand, when you’re going from not talking for two years, you’re sitting under the learning tree of one of the greats in Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman.

“I would sit there and I would study how he would talk and cut the promos. A lot of people think I’m just not talking, but I was actually learning over this two years. I knew when it became my time to shine, it’s like I’ve been doing it for years.

“To feel natural, that’s hard to come across. I didn’t talk for two years. I didn’t know how to talk. But then, after WrestleMania 40 they gave me ‘Alright, now you’re gonna cut a promo.’ I’m nervous man, but I knew all the training and sitting by Roman and Paul Heyman, I was like ‘Man, I got this. This is my time to shine.’”

Solo Sikoa Reacts To “Pew Pew” Becoming “A Thing” After WWE Raw Promo

The July 27 episode of Raw saw Solo Sikoa add the unexpected catchphrase of “pew pew” to his arsenal after making fun of The Usos and their “warning shot.”

With at least one “pew pew” sign being visible in the crowd at SummerSlam Saturday, Sikoa revealed that the line came to him in the moment and was just a way to make fun of his brothers.

Sikoa said:

“I get to pick on my brothers? I get to make fun of them? Who gets to do that on the biggest stage of them all? And on TV in front of millions and millions of people.

“I was like you know what? I’m gonna make fun of them. I just felt it in the moment. Pew pew bow. It became a thing.”

Solo Sikoa Doesn’t Think Current WWE Character Would Have Worked Earlier In His Career

Much like countless top WWE stars in the past, Solo Sikoa has had to wait to reach the point of building a natural connection with the WWE fanbase.

Having had the opportunity to show a different side to his character as time has gone on, Sikoa explained why he doesn’t feel this current iteration would have been accepted by the fans at an earlier point:

“There’s a lot of layers in the character. Can you imagine if I was to do this when I first started? It probably wouldn’t have worked. It’s like when you go out for dinner, you don’t order the dessert first, you gotta get your drinks, your appetiser, now you get your entree, then you get the dessert. I’m giving fans the dessert, another layer that they’ve never seen before. I’m just getting started man…

“In my toolbox I got a lot of tools. Jack of all trades, that’s how I look at it. Little by little, showing them that different side of Solo. Solo Dolo became a thing, I’m just saying stuff off my head as it goes.

“If I’m making my brothers laugh and my cousins. If they’re laughing I know the fans are going to be entertained. So far it’s been working.”
