An update has emerged on CM Punk’s in-ring future, amid his wrestling hiatus and uncertainty surrounding his AEW status.
CM Punk hasn’t wrestled since defeating Jon Moxley in the main event of the September 4 All Out pay-per-view. Punk was notably suspended following his alleged involvement in a backstage fight after calling out multiple names in the post-show media scrum.
While Punk would’ve been out of action regardless of any backstage drama, as he’s currently recovering from tricep surgery, it is thought that Punk will not return to the ring for AEW, following reports that the two sides are in talks over a potential contract buyout.
While previous reports indicated that CM Punk may be done with wrestling, per Fightful Select (subscription required) have spoken with a source close to CM Punk who believes that the AEW star has ‘got the wrestling bug again. The source noted that they would not rule out Punk wrestling again.
The source reportedly indicated that ‘options will be available’ for Punk if he decides he wants to wrestle again. It was also noted that regardless of whether he wants to or not, Punk is a long way from a wrestling return due to his injury.
Punk’s suspension led to the AEW World Championship being vacated, with Jon Moxley winning the title for the third time in the final of the AEW World Championship tournament of champions at AEW Grand Slam.
AEW’s cancelled plans for CM Punk prior to his injury and suspension were recently revealed.
