Who Pitched The Rock WWE Heel Turn & WrestleMania 40 Night One Main Event Confirmed WWE

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H has confirmed who pitched for The Rock to turn heel, and for the WrestleMania 40 Night One main event.

With The Rock stating that he wanted to sit at the head of the table on the January 1 edition of Raw, and passing Cody Rhodes to have a stare-down with Roman Reigns on the February 2 SmackDown show, all signs pointed to WWE announcing The Rock vs Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 40.

After a lot of fan backlash about Cody Rhodes stepping aside for The Rock, it was later confirmed that Rhodes will challenge for Roman Reigns WWE Undisputed Universal Championship on WrestleMania 40 Night Two.

The Rock, who turned heel at the WrestleMania XL Kickoff event, will instead team with Roman Reigns to battle Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the final match of WrestleMania 40 Night One.

Speaking on Logan Paul’s ImPaulsive podcast, Triple H confirmed that it was The Rock who pitched for WWE to pivot away from his singles match.

When asked if he expected the response to WWE teasing The Rock vs Roman Reigns to be that one-sided and loud, Triple H said:

“Being honest, for me, I did. This wasn’t one of those ones where I was like so adamantly (one way), I could see both sides but I felt like… I kept saying (to The Rock) ‘I just don’t want you to get booed in this’.

“Then when they went where they went, in all fairness people forget you don’t get to where The Rock is, the level of success he has across the board with everything, without being super sensitive and dialed into what’s working and what’s not working.

“You’re not going to hit 1000% on everything but you have to be aware. In all fairness, when that happened, we all sat on it for a few days and then we’re rolling it around, and he was the guy who called me and said ‘let me throw this at you’.

“If you would’ve asked me two months earlier ‘what do you think about The Rock turning heel?’ I would’ve said he’d never go for that because of his career and everything else. He was the one who was like ‘what if we flip this? What if we do the tag match, what if I turn heel?’ As soon as he said it I was like 1000%.”
