A title change took place at tonight’s AEW Redemption pay-per-view event in Montreal ahead of All In London.

Last month’s AEW Forbidden Door show was a break out night for Maya World in All Elite Wrestling.

After subbing into the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament as a replacement for the injured Sareee, Maya would go on to reach the final, where she came up short in an incredible clash with her idol Mercedes Mone.

Maya World Wins TBS Championship

Coming out of Forbidden Door, it was up to Tony Khan to keep Maya’s momentum rolling, and it seems like that’s exactly what’s happening.

At tonight’s AEW Redemption pay-per-view event, Maya World challenged Hikaru Shida for the TBS Championship after Shida had continued to assault her on recent Collisions.

It was Maya who got the last laugh, with her defeating Shida on tonight’s show to win the TBS Championship, her first championship in her AEW career, on her birthday no less.

AEW’s Inaugural Redemption Event Can’t Help But Feel A Bit Thrown Together

Rather than having an almost two month wait between Forbidden Door and All In London, AEW Redemption has filled a gap in the company’s Summer PPV output.

While this is a fine idea, the build to the inaugural AEW Redemption event has left a lot to be desired.

While a tremendous talent and potential main eventer, Kevin Knight felt like an odd choice to challenge Kenny Omega for the AEW World Title, especially while a more established name from the Don Callis Family like Kazuchika Okada is there without much clear direction and Knight had a ready-made TNT Title match with Darby Allin asking to be booked for Redemption instead.

AEW pay-per-views can often get by on stellar match quality alone, and Redemption feels like one of the strongest examples in recent memory. While this is all fine and well, the event carried so much more potential from a creative perspective, so hopefully AEW can do a better job with the build when it comes to next year’s Redemption show.
