Sheamus has addressed his departure from WWE earlier this month, as well as his immediate plans as a free agent.

On July 5 it was confirmed that four-time former WWE World Champion Sheamus had departed the company at the end of his contract, bringing an end to his 19-year stint in the company.

Since his exit, speculation has been abound regarding the future of ‘The Celtic Warrior’ in the wrestling business, with fans questioning whether he will end up in AEW, potentially for a reunion with former tag team partner Claudio Castagnoli or move to another top promotion.

Speaking with Adam’s Apple, Sheamus was asked about his plans post-WWE and whether he intends to continue wrestling, to which he responded:

“I’m just enjoying my time off, having a good time. Bringing the missus over to Paris, I’m going back to Dublin to see the family. I’m enjoying my workouts, I feel I’m in the best shape of my life and I’m in a really good place dude it’s been awesome.”

Sheamus was then asked more specifically about his WWE departure, with the 48-year-old only stating that “some circumstances came up”:

“Some circumstances came up, I can’t really talk about it obviously. 19 years is a long time and good crack.

“I left Ireland when I was seven, so I haven’t really had the luxury to go home and see my family and friends. The last couple weeks now I’ve had the chance to restructure that and get back and catch up on birthdays and missed opportunities.”

It was reported that Sheamus’ WWE departure came after the company had approached him regarding a new restructured contract, something he turned down, much like The New Day (Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston) did earlier this year before their release in May.

Following his WWE exit, Sheamus changed his name to S. Farrelly on social media – in reference to his real name Stephen Farrelly – so it appears as if this may be the name he uses if he continues his wrestling career outside of WWE.
