AEW Redemption 2026 Matches Canceled

The AEW Redemption 2026 card has been the topic of conversation throughout July.

With AEW All In London 2026 just weeks away, this final major show before Wembley Stadium has had plans that have seemingly been changed on the fly.

From injuries to scheduling issues, there have been a variety of reasons for why several different matches have wound up scrapped from this Sunday’s lineup.

Here are seven AEW Redemption matches that were potentially canceled.

7. Kenny Omega vs. MJF – AEW World Championship

When AEW Redemption 2026 was announced for Montreal, Quebec, Canada, many fans believed this would be the site for Kenny Omega to finally start his second reign as AEW World Champion, with that match also being the reported original plan for the new PPV.

However, Omega went on to defeat MJF to win the AEW World Championship on the July 8 Beach Break special of AEW Dynamite instead.

Regaining the top prize in All Elite Wrestling, Omega will now defend the title against Kevin Knight in the main event of Redemption 2026.

Meanwhile, Maxwell Jacob Friedman is reportedly recovering from a knee injury he suffered in his AEW World Title bout against RUSH in the weeks since his loss.

6. Divine Dominion vs. Sisters Of Sin – AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships

On the July 22 episode of AEW Dynamite, Divine Dominion defeated Sisters of Sin in a No DQ Match to retain the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships.

This culminated the issues between these two duos that started when Megan Bayne and Lena Kross aligned with Mercedes Monè in an attack on the Triangle of Madness.

Now that Bayne and Kross have retained the gold against Sisters of Sin, it means there is no challenger lined up for the titles at AEW Redemption 2026.

Many fans and pundits believe this match was originally planned for the pay-per-view until Julia Hart was announced for the STARDOM 5 STAR Grand Prix tournament in Japan.

5. Kevin Knight vs. Darby Allin – AEW TNT Championship

After losing the AEW World Title to MJF at Double Or Nothing 2026, Darby Allin got strapped to a gurney and received a thunderous UFO Splash from his former friend and Buddy Wayne Academy alum Kevin Knight.

Since turning heel in May, ‘The Jet’ has since joined forces with the Don Callis Family and has been even cockier than ever before.

Along the way, Knight was electrocuted thanks to a Darby Allin booby trap in the Death Door’s Match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. This led to Don Callis stating that Allin would not get a shot at the TNT Championship because he is a “criminal.”

While many fans expected the two men to do battle at AEW Redemption 2026, Knight instead defeated Allin to retain the TNT Championship mere days before the PPV on the July 22 episode of Dynamite.

4. Kyle Fletcher vs. Konosuke Takeshita – AEW International Championship

At AEW Double Or Nothing 2026, Konosuke Takeshita defeated Kazuchika Okada to win the AEW International Championship. Post match, Kyle Fletcher returned and chose the Don Callis Family over Takeshita with an attack on his former friend.

Since then, it seemed like AEW was building to a big time title showdown between the former Protoshita.

On the July 8 AEW Dynamite: Beach Break, Fletcher defeated Takeshita to win the AEW International Championship.

With “The Alpha” now in Japan for the NJPW G1 Climax 36 tournament, it makes sense why All Elite Wrestling adjusted and did the match early instead of at Redemption.

3. Cage & Cope vs. The Young Bucks – AEW World Tag Team Championships

Since returning to All Elite Wrestling at Revolution 2026, Cage and Cope have seemingly been on a collision course with The Young Bucks.

While The Bucks failed to beat them at Revolution, FTR lost the AEW World Tag Team Championships to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage at Double Or Nothing 2026.

Since then, Cage and Cope have been establishing themselves as champions and FTR have been absent from the AEW television, while The Bucks have been gaining momentum and still looking for a shot at the gold again.

Despite all signs pointing to the match at Redemption 2026, Cage and Cope will instead defend the AEW World Tag Team Titles against the Death Riders, while The Bucks have their hands full with fellow stablemates Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley.

2. Thekla vs. Mercedes Moné – AEW Women’s World Championship

When the 2026 Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament bracket was revealed, many fans were surprised that Mercedes Moné was not part of this year’s field.

However, Willow Nightingale suffered a shoulder injury that required her removal from the tournament and relinquishing the TBS Title. In her place, Moné returned and went on to win her second straight Owen Hart Cup at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

If ‘The CEO’ was not forced to be the “Wild Card” in the Owen, it feels possible that Moné would have gone on to challenge Thekla for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Redemption 2026 ahead of the big Wembley Stadium show.

However, Nightingale returned to win the Women’s Casino Gauntlet at AEW Dynamite: Beach Break and will now challenge ‘The Toxic Spider’ for the gold in Montreal to determine who moves on to face Mone at AEW All In London 2026.

1. Will Ospreay vs. Jon Moxley

Another huge match that some fans pointed to when AEW Redemption 2026 was announced was Will Ospreay finally getting his revenge against Jon Moxley.

At AEW Dynasty 2026, Ospreay attempted to get vengeance for the Death Riders breaking his neck at Forbidden Door 2025, but Moxley once again beat ‘The Aerial Assassin’ to retain the AEW Continental Championship.

From there, the story took a turn with Moxley and The Death Riders starting to train Ospreay to help rebuild his neck following double fusion surgery last year.

Now officially part of the Death Riders, Ospreay will team with Moxley instead of facing him at AEW Redemption 2026 when they clash with the Young Bucks in Montreal.
