Sheamus Names WWE Star He Wishes He Wrestled & Believes Will Be A ‘Big Hit’

Sheamus has named the current WWE star he wishes he got to wrestle during his time in the company that he thinks could be a ‘big hit’.

Earlier this month, it was reported that former WWE Champion Sheamus would be departing the company after 20 years at the end of his contract.

Sheamus has already been removed from the company’s roster page, with him officially set to become a free agent on October 1.

Sheamus Says He Wanted To Wrestle Ilja Dragunov In WWE

Speaking to Adam’s Apple, Sheamus had his first interview since the news of his WWE departure, with him noting that ‘circumstances’ came up that led to his departure.

Sheamus was then asked about who he thinks are the next big things in the company, with him naming Oba Femi and Trick Williams.

Sheamus would also name Ilja Dragunov as a guy he wanted to wrestle, believing he would be a ‘big hit’ if given a good opportunity.

He said:

“Ilja Dragunov was another guy I wanted to wrestle. He’s just a lunatic, same as me. Wants to go out there and put the best fight he possibly can on.

“Ilja’s another one that I never got the chance to dance with, but if he gets a good opportunity I think Ilja will be a big hit as well.”

Sheamus and Ilja had faced off once in their WWE career, being part of a triple threat Money In The Bank qualifier with Drew McIntyre back in 2024.

Sheamus Becomes The Latest ‘WWE Lifer’ To Depart The Company

In recent years during the TKO era of WWE, many fans have had to restructure their perception of a ‘lifer’ in the company.

Over the past few years several names that seemed like lifers in the company, names such as Dolph Ziggler (Nic Nemeth) and the New Day, have left the company, with Sheamus the latest name to join that list.

With rumours continuing to swirl about Bayley’s future in the company after Saturday Night’s Main Event as her contract with the company is set to expire at the end of the year, we may see even more veteran WWE stars previously considered ‘lifers’ leave the company over the next year as TKO seems to so no signs of stopping the way they are running the company.
