At TNA Victory Road in 2011, Jeff Hardy faced Sting in the main event for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
The match wouldn’t last more than ninety seconds with The Icon defeating Hardy who was in no state to wrestle.
On the recent episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Hardy spoke about Sting’s reaction to what happened, saying:
“No [there was no animosity]. When he first came to AEW, just getting to speak with him and know him well and talk to him on a different level. He said he’s always loved Jeff. He’s made mistakes, he said I’ve made plenty of mistakes in the past as well.
“It was a mistake and he said ‘I love him, he’s a good dude, he has a good soul’ and you could tell he loves him so much. That was his mentality towards all that.
“[Sting] is good, he’s in a place where he has a very strong base in religion and he believes in forgiveness and that people deserve second chances. And just because someone’s a good soul or good person, if they make a mistake, even a couple of times, they’re still worth redeeming. And I really liked that.
“It was very, very optimistic and very much something that makes me love Sting so much. Something that really inspired me to always be very forgiving towards everyone.”
Jeff Hardy’s struggles with addiction have been well-documented with the star only able to return from suspension “upon successfully completing treatment and maintaining his sobriety” following his arrest in June 2022 that led to the suspension of his driver’s licence among other punishments.
He has recently spoken about suffering with double vision following a past injury that resulted in surgery during his suspension.
Hardy returned to AEW television in April 2023 and would be reunited with Matt Hardy.
