Report: Tony Khan Declined Talks With New NXT Network For ROH AEW/WWE

The question of the future of WWE NXT in 2024 was put to bed this week, when it was announced that NXT would return to broadcast television, set to air on the CW Network starting in October 2024.

The deal is set to be a 70% increase in media rights for the show, which is by far the highest increase in NXT media rights in the show’s history.

The announcement of NXT heading to the CW came just days after it was reported that Billy Corgan had secured a deal with the network to air the NWA on the station.

In an update from Haus of Wrestling, it wasn’t only the NWA and WWE that had discussions about airing wrestling on the station, as Tony Khan had also held talks with the CW.

Haus of Wrestling reports that a high-level CW executive approached Khan at the LA Forum in June 2022 about the possibility of bringing Ring of Honor to the network.

It is not known if the talks were underway before talks between the network and the NWA or NXT got underway, but Khan reportedly did not pursue the talks with the network as he doesn’t want to entertain new deals for ROH until the AEW television rights are in play, which will be in 2024.

Khan reportedly believes that by waiting, he will have more options and leverage in the marketplace.

On the meeting, Haus of Wrestling was told that Khan found the CW executive to be very pleasant, and someone he enjoyed visiting with, but the timing to make the deal was just simply not right.
