AEW Name ‘Had No Idea’ Adam Copeland (Edge) Was Debuting At WrestleDream AEW

A notable AEW name has said that he had no idea that Adam Copeland was set to debut in the closing moments of WrestleDream.

At the October 1 AEW pay-per-view, Copeland would step foot in another company for the very first time in over 25 years, confronting his life-long best friend Christian Cage after his main event TNT Championship match against Darby Allin.

While there was no shortage of speculation regarding Copeland’s next steps following his final WWE match in August, AEW announcer Tony Schiavone has revealed that he didn’t know about plans for Copeland’s debut ahead of time.

Reflecting on the moment on his What Happened When Podcast, Schiavone explained:

“I had no idea he was there, but I thought it was great.

“I thought it was pretty cool when he slides into the room and he and Christian go face-to-face because I’m looking at them thinking, ‘Man, there’s a legendary tag team and they’re just staring at each other.’

“It was a very, very good moment and the fans lost their minds as well. So with all that, I thought it was a very good move, but no, I didn’t know, and you know what? That’s cool.”

Schiavone discussed the excitement Copeland clearly had for his impending AEW run, as well as indicating that more surprises in a similar vain will no doubt be in store for the AEW audience going forward:

“We did a very exclusive backstage interview with him afterwards, and you can tell his excitement for being here in AEW, so good job.”

“I’m sure as time goes on, it won’t be the last surprise that we have. I’m not giving a spoiler because again, I don’t know, but as we go on in the years, you just never know, right?

“I mean, think about Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley on the very first AEW Double or Nothing.”

This backstage interview has now been released. You can read Copeland’s comments right here.

Copeland is set to share his AEW mission statement on Wednesday’s (October 4) Dynamite, ahead of an appearance on Saturday’s edition of Collision.

As for his AEW in-ring debut, Copeland will take on Luchasaurus on next week’s (October 10) edition of Dynamite.
