Uncertainty Over Upcoming WWE Championship Match

Uncertainty Over Upcoming WWE Championship Match WWE

Following Payback 2023, there has now been some uncertainty cast on an upcoming WWE championship match.

WWE will visit India on September 8 for the second ever Superstar Spectacle event.

It was previously announced that Indian stars Sanga and Veer Mahaan of Indus Sher will face off against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, with the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship on the line.

This match currently cannot go ahead as advertised, as Owens and Zayn are no longer champions.

The duo dropped the gold to Finn Balor and Damian Priest of the Judgment Day at Payback 2023, with the Judgment Day stars winning a Steel City Street Fight for the gold.

It is currently unclear whether this match will go ahead as a non-title bout, or if Owens and Zayn will officially be replaced by the Judgment Day for a title match.

Another possibility is that WWE could instead hold a Balor & Priest vs Owens & Zayn vs Mahaan & Sanga threeway bout for the tag title, but ultimately, nothing has been confirmed.

The only way that this match can go ahead as originally advertised is if Owens and Zayn win their gold back before Friday.

As of writing, WWE hasn’t shared an update on this match.

In the main event of Payback, Seth Rollins defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to retain his WWE World Heavyweight Title.

Rollins was ambushed after the show went off the air, which you can read more about right here.
