The Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at Extreme Rules had even more intrigue added to it last weekend, when it was announced that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier would serve as the special guest referee for the match.
Cormier appeared in a pre-recorded video on this week’s episode of Raw to hype up the match, and his physical appearance at Extreme Rules.
With Cormier previously expressing interest in wrestling following his UFC retirement, and with the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia coming up, many have wondered if Cormier’s appearance in WWE will be a one off, or if he will shoot some kind of angle for a future programme in the company.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cormier, as of now, is only committed to the Extreme Rules show, and is not at all planned to set up an angle or anything of the sort, but that could all change if an updated agreement is met with the company.
The Fight Pit match will be only the third of it’s kind in WWE, with Matt Riddle losing the first-ever Fight Pit match to Timothy Thatcher.
