The person who designed CM Punk’s special entrance mask from last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown has now been revealed.

After two weeks of intense back-and-forth, CM Punk and Kevin Owens faced off the first-time ever in the main event of the August 21 SmackDown in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

With Canada’s own Kevin Owens the fan favorite, CM Punk embraced his role as the villain, and fittingly he made an entrance befitting of that role, as well as Canada’s national sport.

As he made his entrance to a chorus of boos, Punk wore a specially designed hockey mask, one reminiscent of iconic Friday the 13th antagonist Jason Voorhees.

After SmackDown, the creator of the mask revealed himself to be none other than special effects artist, and frequent WWE collaborator, Jason Baker.

Taking to Instagram, Baker shared a closer look at the mask, which, as well as taking inspiration from Friday the 13th, Punk’s own Chicago Blackhawks and 1995 crime movie classic Heat, also featured a special tribute to Punk and AJ Lee’s late dog Larry.

Baker wrote:

New Vintage style / Heat/ Friday the 13th/ Chicago Blackhawks/Best in the world inspired Goalie mask for the Coach @cmpunk created by me.

And yes, those are Larry the dog’s actual paw prints on the side. Jacket & gear by @byjolene. Special thanks to @realprinceofallsaiyans for assisting w/ 3D printing.

Baker has previously worked with a number of WWE stars over the years, designing masks for the likes of Bray Wyatt, Rhea Ripley, Jacob Fatu and The Wyatt Sicks.

CM Punk confirmed the inspirations behind his mask with follow up posts on his Instagram Stories, sharing images of scenes from Heat and Friday the 13th.

While Punk played up his role as the ‘bad guy’ in last night’s SmackDown main event, he did take to social media to thank the “gorgeous” fans of Toronto after his win, a win which came thanks to a major assist from Sami Zayn.

Zayn capitalized on referee Dan Engler being knocked out to interfere in Punk and Owens’ match, first attempting to assist KO to win, before striking his best friend with the Undisputed WWE Title, which then allowed Punk to deliver a GTS on Owens and retain his gold.

Making clear he still has nothing but hatred for the champion however, Zayn then also laid out Punk with the WWE Championship after the match, before striking Owens again for good measure.
