Current World Champion Reveals What CM Punk Told Him In Recent Talk

NJPW star and current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA has recalled a recent conversation he had with CM Punk.

While SANADA and Punk are at completely different points in their respective careers, with SANADA proving himself as a world champion, and CM Punk already an established main eventer, the duo were both recently on the same show, with both stars in action at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door 2023.

In an interview shared on the official NJPW website, SANADA noted that while speaking with CM Punk, the former AEW World Champion praised the IWGP world title design:

“I got to chat with CM Punk, and he was like ‘that belt is the coolest’.

“You know, for a CM Punk to know who you are and what you’re doing, that speaks to how widely the IWGP Champion is known.”

The current IWGP World Heavyweight Championship design is often looked down upon by fans, with many criticising NJPW for replacing the beloved IWGP Heavyweight Title belt when unifying it with the Intercontinental Championship in 2021

At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door, SANADA defended the gold against Jack Perry, who turned on HOOK following the title bout.

Elsewhere on the card, Punk defeated Satoshi Kojima in his first singles match since September 2022 to advance in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

Since returning to AEW TV in June, Punk has mainly appeared for the Collision brand.
