WWE Star Big E Reveals Trailer For Uplifting Animated Short WWE

An upcoming animated short movie based on the story of schoolgirl Ruby Bridges and produced by WWE’s Big E has an official trailer.

Executive Producer Ettore “Big E” Ewen unveiled the trailer that can be seen below this news story for the short that has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

Bridges tells a stylised version of the story of Ruby Bridges who, at the age of 14, was the African-American child to integrate into a school in the segregated south of the 1960s.

Due for release on February 1 via YouTube, the animated short saw its premier at Urbanworld Film Festival in New York City last November.

Co-creator Andreas Hale also commented on the importance of the animation, tweeting:

“In the wake of George Floyd’s death, a writer, an artist and a pro wrestler decided that they wanted to try to change the world with a cartoon that would tell the stories of our heroes.

“Releases on YouTube February 1, 2024

“I don’t ask for much but please share this EVERYWHERE!”

The Our Heroes Rock production is envisaged as part of a series, according to Big E, who spoke to WrestleZone, saying:

“I think for us, we’ve talked about this being a series, mostly because there are so many stories beyond just Ruby Bridges.

“I think back to when I first had the conversation with Jonathan [Davenport], and we were first talking about who we wanted to [include] because it started off as a ring gear concept, and it went from three, to six, to eleven, seventeen very quickly.

“I think there are so many ways to tell these stories and we don’t want this to feel pedantic and heavy-handed, we want this to be engaging and fun, and I think we can do that with letting each story breathe and finding ways to use elements of entertainment.”

Our Heroes Rock is described as a ‘hip-hop and science fiction animation hybrid’ seeking to ‘put a spotlight on Black heroes (who) aren’t talked about as often.’

The NAACP Image Awards take place on March 16 with 2024 marking the fifty-fifth edition of the ceremony.
