WWE’s Chad Gable has revealed that he underwent an additional surgery last year after his doctor discovered his bicep tendon was “completely shredded” whilst operating on his rotator cuff.

In June 2025, Chad Gable was forced onto the sidelines after suffering a torn rotator cuff, which forced the former Olympian to undergo surgery and miss over six months of action.

While Gable has since returned to WWE, first under a mask as “The Original” El Grande Americano, and now as the unmasked Chad Gable once again, he has shared footage of the build up to his shoulder surgery, and his early recovery afterwards.

In episode 2 of his YouTube series titled: ‘The Renewal’, Gable spoke from his hospital bed and revealed that his doctor discovered considerable damage to his bicep tendon whilst operating on his torn rotator cuff, which led to him receiving a “bonus surgery” to fix both issues.

Gable revealed:

“We’re done. Surgery went well. Fixed it up just like we were supposed to. But while Dr. Dugus was in there, he found the bicep tendon at the shoulder was pretty much completely shredded, to a degree that he did not know, because the images don’t always show everything.

“So when he went in there, the bicep tendon was actually a lot worse than he thought it was. So he repaired that as well, since he was in there anyway.

“So, a little bonus surgery for Gable here.”

Following the operation, Gable’s surgeon Dr. Dugus told him it was a testament to his athleticism that he was able to do even “a little bit”, given the damage pre-surgery:

“The fact that you could even do a little bit with that just speaks to your athleticism.”

A New Era For Chad Gable Begins

After returning to WWE at the Royal Rumble, Gable has been competing at as a high level as ever before, and put on one of WWE’s most well received matches in recent memory on Saturday, May 30 with he and El Grande Americano’s Mask vs. Mask Match at AAA Noche de Los Grandes.

After losing that match, Gable revealed himself to be the man behind “The Original” El Grande Americano persona, and since then he has been on a mission to redeem himself, both to the lucha libre stars in WWE that he disrespected, and perhaps even other individuals in his past before that – as was teased by Rey Mysterio on the June 8 episode of Raw.

After making amends with those in his past – which many have speculated to be his former stablemates in Alpha Academy (Otis, Akira Tozawa & Maxxine Dupri) – Gable could perhaps be finally on his path to significant singles success in WWE for the first time.

A main event push is exactly what WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry has called to happen, with “The Worlds Strongest Man” describing the reaction Gable received upon his return to WWE TV as an “elite pop.”
