Former WWE Star Provides Clarification On Rejecting AEW Nightmare Family Role AEW

Former WWE star Matt Cardona has sought to clarify comments made by Cody Rhodes regarding his brief AEW run in 2020.

In an interview earlier this year, Cody Rhodes told the story of Matt Cardona rejecting the chance to join the Nightmare Family in AEW, with Cardona refusing to wear any apparel associated with the group to an unnamed member of AEW management.

Speaking to Sam Roberts, Cardona clarified Rhodes’ comments, confirming that he turned down the chance to join Rhodes’ group but denying some details of Rhodes’ side of the story.

Cardona said:

“There’s some truth to that (Cody Rhodes’ story about Cardona not wanting to be in the Nightmare Family). It’s a Cody story.

“I did not want to be a part of the Nightmare Family.

“That is true but I do have the jacket in my closet and if you wanna buy it, hit me up (he laughed).

“I’m thinking about selling it. It says ‘Strong Island’ on the front. I’m not wearing that.

“But no, listen, I thought the AEW thing… See, that’s not true, that is untrue (Cardona turned the opportunity down while in the same room as Rhodes & management).

“That is not true. That’s a Cody story, it’s a Cody story.”

While Cardona denied Rhodes’ comments, he did reveal one conversation he did have with AEW President Tony Khan regarding a potential action figure release upon his AEW debut.

Cardona said:

“I’ll tell you this, the day I met Tony Khan, I pitched, ‘Hey, we should drop my figure on RingsideCollectibles.com.

“The first night, pre-order.’ It’s never been done.”

Since his brief AEW stint Cardona has established himself as an independent star, making a name for himself working with the likes of GCW, NWA and IMPACT Wrestling.

Despite this there have been plenty rumors this years surrounding a potential return to WWE, especially now that his wife Chelsea Green is back in the company.

Green has been praised for he excellent character work thus far in her current WWE-run alongside tag partner Sonya Deville.

Deville recently revealed the origins of the successful team, to find out more follow this link here.
