Current WWE Name Says He’d Rather Bring In CM Punk Than The Young Bucks AEW

WWE Hall of Famer and Senior Vice President of Live Events ‘Road Dogg’ Brian James has weighed up the value of CM Punk, FTR, and the Young Bucks.

Road Dogg looked at the five members of the AEW roster on his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, deciding on which name he valued above the others.

With James being asked about talent outside of WWE that he would like to see brought into the company, he said:

“I immediately start thinking about who is the most marketable guy out there

“And I don’t see anyone that, like, you have to have.”

James would note that WWE has enough talent in the locker room to keep the company profitable, something that’s been evident with the recent news of a record-breaking live gate for WrestleMania 40 and multiple record-breaking events in 2023.

If there was a talent that he would see as a needle mover for WWE, though, it would be CM Punk, with James going to say:

“Punk coming back would move the needle in a big way. I don’t know how relationships are with that… but that would move the needle.

“So, if I had to say somebody, it would be him, but I would only say him from a controversial standpoint… in my mind anyway, I think he’s a controversial figure at this point — and I think that’s good for business.”

When it comes to other prominent names in AEW, James didn’t have as much enthusiasm for seeing them jump ship to WWE, concluding:

“If FTR came back, you’d hear on the internet how great it was, (but) I’m not sure the ratings would move.

“With Punk, it’s a little (different) — I believe he’s above them. If I had to grab somebody, it’d be Punk.

“Look, if I had to get FTR back, I’d get them back in a heartbeat, too, because they’re a great tag team and will shore up our tag team division. But, I’d go for Punk — I’m not going for those guys and the same thing with Young Bucks.”

He would go to note that he admires both members of the Young Bucks but that he wouldn’t be likely to “pay money to see them”, which is part of his reason why he wouldn’t bring Matt & Nick Jackson to WWE.

The Young Bucks recently signed a new “record-breaking” contract to keep them in AEW for the foreseeable future.

In April 2023, it was reported that FTR had signed a four-year contract.
