Former WWE Star Makes First Wrestling Appearance Following Release WWE

A former WWE star has now made his first appearance since leaving WWE, with the former Dabba Kato returning to an independent promotion.

Dabba Kato, real name Babatunde Aiyegbusi, made an appearance for Prime Time Wrestling in Poland on Sunday (February 4).

The promotion’s commentator Arek Paterek took to Twitter to comment on the confrontation between “BabaThunder” and the PTW Champion, writing:

Former WWE wrestler @DabbaKatoWWE returns at @PTWrestlingPL Gold Rush as BabaThunder to face the champion, Dawid Puncher Seńko, after the main event of the show! #wrestling #wrestlingpl #prowrestling

Babatunde reposted Paterek’s post.

Babatunde signed with WWE in April 2016 and worked on the NXT brand until 2020, when he made his Raw debut as part of the Raw Underground brand.

He went on to join forces with Apollo Crews at WrestleMania 37 in 2021 as Commander Azeez, before he and Crews were moved back to NXT in 2022.

WWE released Babatunde during the September 2023 round of talent cuts.

The former Dabba Kato hasn’t wrestled since losing to Tyler Bate on the September 9, 2023 edition of NXT.

Sunday’s (February 4) NXT Vengeance Day premium live event saw Carmelo Hayes attack Trick Williams in the closing moments of the show.

Several WWE stars have reacted to this head turn, which you can read more about right here.
