One of the greatest matches of the year so far took place back at Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales on September 3, when Sheamus went to war with Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.
Gunther came out on top on the night, but Sheamus received a standing ovation from the crowd in Cardiff, seemingly setting up a future rematch between the two later down the line.
After weeks of Imperium and the Brawling Brutes going at it, Sheamus and Gunther continued to get in each other’s face, teasing a future encounter.
WWE has now officially announced the Intercontinental Championship rematch between the two, with it set to take place on the October 7 episode of SmackDown, being dubbed the ‘season premiere’ of the show.
