A title change has taken place at tonight’s August 24 WWE NXT Heatwave premium live event in Lowell, Massachusetts.

At time of writing, two out of the night’s six matches have taken place, with some news coming out of both of them.

The opening match was a three-way between Jaida Parker, Kelani Jordan and Lola Vice to determine the #1 contender for Jacy Jayne’s NXT Women’s Championship.

It was Vice who picked up the win, meaning she is guaranteed a shot at Jayne’s NXT Women’s Title.

That match will take place at WWE NXT No Mercy, which has been announced for Saturday, September 27 in Four Lauderdale, Florida.

The second match at Heatwave tonight saw Hank Walker and Tank Ledger put the NXT Tag Team Championship on the line against two members of DarkState.

Unknown ahead of the match, it was Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin representing DarkState in the match.

However, Saquon Shugars and Cutler James were both also at ringside, and the numbers game came out on top as DarkState picked up the win to become new NXT Tag Team Champions.

It’s unclear whether Lennox and Griffin will be the only duo defending the title going forward, or if the ‘Freebird’ rule will be in play where any of the four members can defend the championship.

Walker and Ledger had held the NXT Tag Team Championship for 127 days, beating Fraxiom to win the title at Stand & Deliver during WrestleMania weekend.
