WWE NXT star Tavion Heights has reflected on his recent excursion to Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan last year.
Last year, WWE sent a number of NXT stars over to Pro Wrestling NOAH on excursion, with Josh Briggs, Tavion Heights, Charlie Dempsey and Harlem Lewis all making the way over to Japan.
Since his return from excursion, Heights was a part of the No Quarter Catch Crew, with him recently going off on his own.
Heights will attempt to win his first championship in WWE this weekend, when he faces former team mate Myles Borne for the North American Championship at the Great American Bash.
Tavion Heights Says Pro Wrestling NOAH Excursion Helped ‘Leaps & Bounds’
Speaking to Denise Salcedo, Heights reflected on his excursion, and how it helped ‘leaps and bounds’ in his career growth.
He said:
“Leaps and bounds. Leaps and bounds. I can say solely just from a language viewpoint, communication there is difficult. You literally go from speaking English, a common vernacular, to having to speak wrestling with someone.
“That elevated my game so much, because these guys are professionals, these athletes over there are pros, they know exactly what they’re doing. Me coming over as an NXT wrestler, I had to stand out, I had to do my thing.
“Man, the levels of growth was, I can’t even tell you. We’re speaking a language, and wrestling is a language. When someone does something, you know how to move, you know how to react, I learned this from amateur wrestling as well, there’s a flow state you go into when you’re wrestling, it’s like a literal dance if you will.
“I got a chance to perfect my dance, I got the chance to work on my toe tap, so it was beautiful to see.
“It opened my mind to different move sets, different ways to move around the ring, to think about how to use a ring, because in Japan they use the ring entirely differently, and now I can bring that back and mesh it with my style and make something unique from it, so it was a beautiful growing moment.”

More WWE NXT Excursions Coming Soon?
With Tavion Heights one of several NXT stars to make the excursion overseas, WWE should continue to look at sending some of it’s lesser used NXT stars to Japan to help them in a way similar to Heights.
With WWE also having a working relationship with Rossy Ogawa’s Marigold promotion, the lesser used NXT Women’s stars also have options to go over to Japan on excursion.
Names such as Josh Briggs, Brooks Jensen, Jaida Parker, Karmen Petrovic, Izzi Dame and Niko Vance could go on excursion to Japan to help hone their skills even further.
