CM Punk teased his WWE television return to the SmackDown brand during his appearance at tonight’s CFFC 156 event.

After losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42, CM Punk would confront Cody Rhodes on the Raw after WrestleMania, where he teased a potential title match against Cody for the Undisputed WWE Championship later down the line.

Punk has yet to return to WWE television since the segment, though it has been reported that the plans are currently for Punk to return to the SmackDown brand upon his return to television, which would line up with him facing off against Cody.

CM Punk Teases WWE SmackDown Return

Amid his WWE television absence, Punk returned to his other role as a commentator for Cage Fight Fury Championships 156 tonight in Chicago, where he made several references to his WWE absence.

Later in the night, Punk was asked by his co-commentators if he would be able to make it to another upcoming CFFC event, even though it wasn’t taking place in Chicago.

Punk would tease his return to the SmackDown brand in response, saying:

“Was that a Friday? It’s a Friday? I don’t know if I can make it…”

With tomorrow night’s Night of Champions event falling on the 15th anniversary of CM Punk’s iconic Pipebomb promo, we could see Punk reappear at the end of the show, which will be headlined by Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther and Sami Zayn.

Who Will Be In The World Championship Matches At SummerSlam?

Tomorrow night’s Night of Champions event will feature the finals of the 2026 King of the Ring Tournament, with Oba Femi facing off against Jey Uso for the crown, and a shot at either world championship at SummerSlam.

While Oba Femi winning and facing Roman Reigns would be the best possible option, the x-factor for the match is the potential return of Brock Lesnar, who is seemingly set for a rubber match with Oba at SummerSlam in Minneapolis, which may be set up by Brock costing Oba the King of the Ring final.

Jey Uso defeating Oba Femi would not be an ideal situation, though with Jey winning, he has actively teased going after Cody Rhodes and the WWE Championship at the behest of Roman Reigns, though he could always come to his senses and turn once again on his Tribal Chief.

Should the King of the Ring winner choose to face Cody, then Reigns will likely end up facing Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, while if the winner picks Roman, the likely options for Cody are a match with Punk or a WrestleMania rematch with Randy Orton.
