This week on NXT TV, Matt Riddle was defeated by Timothy Thatcher in the first-ever Cage Fight. It seems like this was Riddle’s last match in NXT, at least for the foreseeable future, as Kurt Angle announced last night on SmackDown that Riddle is now a member of the blue brand.
Many people have speculated that due to his outspoken nature on social media, that Riddle may have garnered some heat backstage within WWE, but it seems like this isn’t the case, as WWE higher-ups are believed to have high hopes for the former NXT Tag Team Champion.
It was reported during the week that SmackDown Executive Director Bruce Prichard personally asked for both Matt Riddle and AJ Styles to be moved over to SmackDown, and it has since emerged that those in high places within WWE have big plans for Riddle.
Speaking on the matter, reliable Twitter source WrestleVotes had the following to say:
Those in power have very “high” hopes for Matt Riddle on SmackDown.

It seems like Riddle isn’t the only NXT star heading up to the main roster over the next month or so, as WrestleTalk has learned that the plan as of right now is to also bring up Dominik Dijakovic from NXT, likely to Monday Night Raw, although his brand has yet to be confirmed.
