Update On WWE’s Interest In QT Marshall, More Details On AEW Departure AEW

An update has emerged on QT Marshall and the possibility of a move to WWE after he announced his AEW departure.

Yesterday, November 27, Marshall announced on Twitter that he was resigning from AEW and would officially be leaving at the end of the year.

Marshall wasn’t only a wrestler for AEW, but was also a coach and a Vice President behind the scenes, and at one point was essentially Tony Khan’s right-hand man.

In Marshall’s announcement, one quote that got attention was he said he felt AEW was moving in a “different direction”.

A new report from Haus of Wrestling has shed some light on this, revealing that according to people who are close to Marshall, this was referencing a belief that AEW is moving in the direction of being more like NJPW and focusing more on matches than storytelling, because Tony Khan likes that style.

Another very interesting tidbit was that, when Cody Rhodes left AEW to join WWE, Marshall’s power within AEW “began to deteriorate quickly”.

Marshall had coached at Cody Rhodes’ Nightmare Factory training school before the launch of AEW, and still does so to this day.

In something that Dave Meltzer has also reported, Marshall was reportedly vocal about wanting to work more as an in-ring performer than just a coach backstage.

Given his desire to do this and evident lack of being pushed as a wrestler, people weren’t surprised that he ended up leaving.

People close to Marshall said he is “primarily interested” in wrestling for WWE.

Many sources believed Marshall could be in a good position to get a role coaching at the WWE Performance Center given his close relationship with Rhodes.

However, the belief is – back to the earlier point – Marshall would want to be an active wrestler rather than a coach.

It was said he “may be open” to the idea of being a wrestler and a coach, but it’s unknown whether WWE would offer him that or only offer one or the other – in which case, he’d want it to be active wrestler, not coach.

Sources close to the WWE side were “skeptical” that WWE would want to bring in Marshall just as an active wrestler.

Nonetheless, it’s said that Marshall’s focus is “having fun, wrestling, and improving as a performer”.

We’ll keep you posted with any further updates.
