A WWE name has discussed potentially returning to the ring, saying he is open to a one-off rather than a full-time return.
WWE announcer Corey Graves officially retired as an in-ring competitor back in 2014 after suffering numerous concussions, transitioning full-time into an announcer for NXT and later Raw and SmackDown.
Graves was cleared to potentially make an in-ring return back in 2021, with him winning the 24/7 Championship, but he has yet to make an officially return to the ring, and it seems he won’t be doing so, at least full-time.
Speaking to Steelers Takeaways, Graves said that he would be open to making an in-ring return in a one-off capacity, but not as a full-time wrestler.
He said:
“The transition in a weird way saved me from what could have been. Instead of grieving over the loss of my dream as an in-ring performer, it gave me something new to focus my energy on while staying in the business. I found a new mountain to climb. In hindsight it really helped me deal with that loss.
“I have a clean bill of health now, thanks. I actually got medically cleared a couple of years ago to perform in the ring again. I flirted with the idea and am waiting for a potential opportunity if it presents itself. More of a one-time ting like McAfee has done – not as a full-time in-ring performer.”
Graves currently serves as the colour commentator on the SmackDown brand alongside Michael Cole and Kevin Patrick.
