The backstage reaction among WWE officials to Sunday, May 28’s NXT Battleground “milestone” event has been revealed.
NXT Battleground (highlights of which can be seen below this news story) marked the first time the event name had been used since July 2017 and was a reported high point for the company.
According to PW Insider, “NXT officials were absolutely thrilled with the show last night, with some feeling it was the best NXT “milestone” event in some time.”
Further to this “one source we spoke to felt it was “worlds ahead” of their Wrestlemania weekend broadcast.”
Over WrestleMania weekend, NXT presented Stand & Deliver on April 1 which saw Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn defeating Fallon Henley and Kiana James to become NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions and Indi Hartwell defeating then-champion Roxanne Perez, Zoey Stark, Gigi Dolin, Lyra Valkyria, and Tiffany Stratton to become NXT Women’s Champion.
Hartwell would vacate the NXT Women’s Championship leading to the match between Tiffany Stratton and Lyra Valkyria to decide the new champion and 100th woman to hold WWE championship gold.
There had been particular praise for the new NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, with footage showing her receiving an ovation when she returned backstage to be greeted by Shawn Michaels.
