WWE star Mustafa Ali took part in his first NXT premium live event last night, when he competed for the NXT North American Championship.
The match pit Ali against both Wes Lee and champion Dominik Mysterio in a match that saw Dominik retain his gold, but Ali had a very meaningful homage during the bout.
At one point, Ali had Dominik in a Camel Clutch, while also having Lee in a half Boston Crab.
The Camel Clutch was famously the signature submission hold of late WWE Hall of Famer the Iron Sheik, and Ali has now confirmed that the move as an homage to Sheiky Baby.
Taking to Twitter, Ali retweeted a tweet drawing attention to Ali’s tribute, which read:
Mustafa Ali using the Camel Clutch with his own spin on it as a tribute to the late Iron Sheik was great.
Sheik was stereotyped as a villain in the USA, but he still paved the way. Ali using that move at Great American Bash & getting cheered shows homage with a positive meaning.
