A WWE star has won a major Japanese pro wrestling award.
On January 1, WWE star Shinsuke Nakamura made his return to Japan to face The Great Muta in one of his retirement matches for the Pro Wrestling NOAH The New Year 2023.
Nakamura picked up the win, but it was a historic match overall for Nakamura being the first WWE contracted talent to compete in NOAH’s ring.
On December 12, Tokyo Sports announced that the Shinsuke Nakamura vs. The Great Muta match had won the outlet’s Best Bout Award.
This marked the first time Nakamura won this particular award since 2014 when he won for his match against Kazuchika Okada in the G1 Climax tournament.
Meanwhile, this marked Muta’s fourth time winning the award and first time since 2021.
Keiji Mutoh officially retired in February 2023 following back-to-back matches with Tetsuya Naito and Masahiro Chono in the Tokyo Dome.
Shinsuke Nakamura is currently on the WWE Raw brand and embroiled in a feud with Cody Rhodes.
