WWE
Details have emerged on the real reason WWE chose to spoil an upcoming title change, ahead of another big show.
With it previously being announced that AAA’s El Hijo Del Vikingo will face WWE’s Chad Gable at the June 7 WWE Worlds Collide crossover show, an extra wrinkle has been added to this bout, with it announced on Raw that this bout will be for the AAA Mega Championship.
The only issue with this announcement was that El Hijo Del Vikingo wasn’t the champion at the time of the May 26 announcement, Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) was.
With Vikingo set to challenge for Alberto’s gold on May 31, it appears that WWE has effectively spoiled that Vikingo will win the AAA Mega Championship.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE went into this announcement with the idea that, in theory, Mexican-based fans would likely know that Alberto was the champion, while US-based fans weren’t expected to know this.
Pointing out that the Worlds Collide bout wasn’t advertised as an AAA Mega Championship match on the Mexican WWE Raw stream, Meltzer said:
“On the Mexican version of Netflix, they put up a different graphic and didn’t mention that it was for the title because in Mexico – in theory – people would know that Alberto was the champion, but in the United States they wouldn’t know.
“That was the mentality for doing this and they thought that that was okay.”

Meltzer added that WWE’s mentality was that their Mexican fans wouldn’t have the Vikingo vs Gable advertised to them as a title match.
This obviously backfired, as the title match graphic has been circulating on social media, which isn’t confined to one specific country.
