WWE appears to be trying out a major new camera strategy, progressing the use of the technique from a pre-taped to a live show.
Throughout the pre-show match for NXT Deadline tonight between Axiom and Nathan Frazer, it certainly seemed that WWE was piloting a new camera strategy.
Rather than using the traditional ‘hard cam’ for most of the match, instead, there were decidedly more shots through the ring ropes at close proximity.
Instead of the hard cam shooting down, there was one particular camera operator at ringside on the hard cam side shooting upwards through the ropes.
Capturing the action at close proximity allowed fans to see not only the wrestlers’ faces up close mid-match but also get a closer look at the action.
A similar camera strategy has been recently trialed on Main Event as well, seemingly suggesting that the technique has moved beyond pre-taped matches and is being used at tonight’s live event.
It isn’t the first time WWE has used NXT to try out different production/presentation techniques, as there was a period of time during NXT 2.0 where they even tried having camera men inside the ring, but that experiment has since been ended.
In the opening match of the night, Axiom was able to best Nathan Frazer and picked up the pinfall victory.
First up for the NXT premium live event, Dirty Dominik Mysterio puts the North American Championship on the line against Dragon Lee.
The match was previously set to feature Wes Lee taking on the champ Mysterio, however after revealing on this week’s NXT that he needed surgery and was medically unable to compete, Dragon Lee was subbed in for Wes Lee.
However before that action could kick off, a segment featuring Shawn Michaels and CM Punk.
