WWE Raw – March 4, 2019 (Review)

What was your favourite moment from Raw?

I know over the past few years we have seen the Shield reform and disband a couple of times, but that fist bump still sends my little fangirl heart a-flutter. However, the match being dubbed as ‘One Last Time’ and commentary finally acknowledging Dean’s contact situation, makes me a little suspicious about his legitimate future with the company. (My Is-it-a-work-or-shoot-O-meter strongly pointing at work after this week.) Either way, I’m excited to see my boys team up again.

If there was anybody born to portray a heel, its Ronda freakin’ Rousey! I never fully got behind her babyface shtick, but I am 100% invested in her as a heel. That closing segment has now ramped up my excitement to see the triple threat at WrestleMania and hopefully the start of the Four Horsewomen vs Horsewomen feud that we’ve all been waiting for. Also, honourable mention to Otis Dozavic – that promo made me laugh out loud. Moral of the story: don’t hurt his feelings.

Roman Reigns. I’m bloody tired of Shield reunions. They’ve happened so often over the last three years that it’s become a bit tiresome. That said, Roman’s plea to reunite the trio for “one last ride” was excellent. His line about wanting one more moment with his brothers, because tomorrow isn’t a guarantee, was an incredible comment, given the current rumors of Dean’s exit, and of course, Roman’s recent cancer scare.

Before that, though, Roman and Seth shared a brilliant moment. Seth believed that Reigns wanted a shot at Brock Lesnar. But Roman said that his priorities are different now, instead wishing luck to his Shield brother. This seemingly confirmed that Reigns will not be inserted into the WrestleMania Universal Title match, but was done in a clever, touching way. An absolutely golden promo from WWE’s golden boys.

The Rousey / Lynch / Flair segment was absolutely phenomenal and the best part of the show. Each woman played her role perfectly. Charlotte – the heel who refused to get involved as Becky got destroyed by Ronda. Becky – who tried to fight back despite being injured. And Ronda – allowing herself to reach the breaking point after being second in the eyes of the fans to Becky. From a storyline perspective, it all makes complete sense and all of these women need to be commended because they captured and portrayed it all spectacularly. My favorite part was when Ronda kept yelling if Becky was going to tweet about this and at the very end, Lynch smiled that smug grin that has probably gotten her in more trouble than she cares to admit.

The tag team match between Ricochet and Black versus The Revival was great and the no finish was the right call because Revival shouldn’t be losing their belts and the new NXT stars shouldn’t be losing so early in their debuts. Elias is great and I adore Heavy Machinery. I appreciate them addressing Ambrose’s potential leaving and reforming The Shield might finally give him direction and a more natural change in character.

Fleeting as it was, I’ll always enjoy seeing Ricochet and Aleister Black in the ring. I have no idea why they were thrown into a tag title match so early, essentially guaranteeing the non-finish, but I was entertained by the match regardless.

Ricochet is simply electric between the ropes and Black is a phenomenal performer. I hope they don’t get too bogged down in the depressing tag division, as ultimately both men would be better served as singles stars, but at least they’re being booked in prominent matches and aren’t losing.
