One of the best segments in recent Raw history was the “Festival of Friendship” between Chris Jericho and the then Universal Champion, Kevin Owens.
The angle saw Kevin Owens turn on his best friend, setting up a match at WrestleMania 33 between the duo.
It seems like WWE wants to recreate this storyline with a similar one between Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura.
The two former NXT Champions joined forces last week on Smackdown Live, and their alliance was seen on this week’s show too.
With regards to WWE’s plan for the duo, the ever-reliable WrestleVotes has said WWE wants the relationship between Nakamura and Zayn to mirror that of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn from 2016.
One of the ideas I’ve heard when the Zayn / Nakamura storyline was decided upon was to eventually resemble that of the Jericho / Owens friendship from a few years ago, leading to a big time blowoff match. However, I’d be surprised if this story lasted all the way thru to Mania.

The idea is that the alliance could lead to the pair having a big-time match later on down the line.
There is currently no word on who WWE is planning on turning babyface out of Nakamura or Zayn.
It is also not known when WWE plans on having the two face off. However, WrestleVotes said that it will likely be before WrestleMania 36 in April 2020.
