Renee Young is the envy of almost all wrestling commentators, and not just because she’s married to Jon Moxley.
She gets to commentate on the most widely watched (for now) weekly wrestling show in the world, but unfortunately for her, this comes with its fair share of criticism.
When she was thrust into the role with next to no experience of commentary, the appointment was widely applauded, but her skill on the mic has caused a lot of fans to turn heel on her.
In a recent tweet, she called out a fan who criticised her:
“Here’s the truth. I know im not great on commentary, but it’s my job. I try to get better each week. People love to tell me how bad I am at it as if I think I’m great at it. So I should just quit? What would that say about me?Not easy to learn a skill on a gigantic global tv show. Well a lot of people say that but don’t realize that Talking Smack and raw commentary are completely different jobs. I’m a tv host and have been for a decade- so talking smack was my jam- commentary’s entirely different. Different skills.”
Since then, she has spoken in an interview with Alicia Atout, and admitted that she let the criticism get to her a bit, and that she appreciates all who support her.
“When I first started hosting, it didn’t go anywhere. I had shows that I did on small cable networks, but no one really saw me. So I could figure my stuff out without people seeing it. But now, doing commentary, prior to me filling in and taking over, I wasn’t groomed for that spot. I wasn’t at NXT or in the booth doing it. I’m learning this entirely new skill on Monday Night Raw. There’s good days and bad days. I’m always open to learning and open to criticism.”
Honestly, if its her, Coachman or Otunga, I know I’m going for Renee every time.
