In just under two weeks, NXT will become a two-hour show on the USA Network. The show will air live from Full Sail for the first time.
The first show on the new network will feature an NXT North American Championship defence from Velveteen Dream, and a triple threat match to determine the number one contender to Shayna Baszler’s NXT Women’s Championship.
It was believed that NXT will be treated as more of a third brand alongside Raw and Smackdown following the move. Previously, Triple H’s NXT has been very much WWE’s developmental territory.
This makes sense, as it was reported earlier in the week that NXT will be included in the upcoming WWE Draft that will make Raw and Smackdown separate brands once again.
However, Dave Meltzer is reporting in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NXT’s top stars will still be called up to the main roster as they have done previously. There is no plan for this practise to change.
However, it is currently not known whether more main roster stars who are doing little of note will be moving to NXT. This was seen this year with Killian Dain, Fandango and Tyler Breeze all moving back to the black and gold brand.
The idea is that NXT will be given more of a focus. The company hope that the move will draw more eyes to the NXT product.
