With WWE calling NXT its third brand, and it moving to its new two-hour Wednesday time slot, many will have wondered whether wrestlers will still be “called up” to Raw and SmackDown just as before.
The short answer, at least according to Dave Meltzer in the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, is yes.
Meltzer is reporting that WWE still sees NXT as the developmental brand, and that it will continue to bring up stars to the main roster shows.
“Even though NXT will be on television, the idea of bringing up guys from NXT to the main roster, being Raw and Smackdown, will continue, as opposed to NXT being its own third major league brand . There are plans for people to be called up.”
The latest NXT call up (if you can call it that), was the Street Profits of Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford. The pair haven’t actually had a main roster match yet for whatever reason, so hopefully when the next set of call-ups do eventually happen, they will at least have a match or two.
NXT debuts on the USA Network on Wednesday, September 18, which is exactly two weeks before AEW debuts its weekly show on TNT.
