The last time we saw John Cena on WWE TV was at WrestleMania 35, where he returned as the Doctor of Thuganomics to take out Elias, and he hasn’t wrestled since January.
That could soon change however, as Cena has said in an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated that he is very eager to return to the ring in the near future.
“I’m so grateful to be doing some amazing things right now, but I still miss WWE and still ask myself, ‘Who am I?’ when I am not active with WWE. My identity was so closely tied to WWE for so long.
“I never make the matches, I’m just grateful to be able to perform in WWE. Every day away from it, I miss it more and more and more. I’m becoming more honest with myself about how much I miss it. I’m very eager to get back into a WWE ring soon.”
He was also asked about Randy Orton challenging him to a match at WrestleMania 36 in a recent Instagram post, to which Cena replied:
“I wasn’t even aware of that.”
Ooo, sick burn. But Cena did make it clear that he has no intentions of missing a single WrestleMania in the future.
“And on the subject of WrestleMania, I can tell you this—I haven’t missed a WrestleMania since my first appearance at WrestleMania 19, and I do not plan to miss a WrestleMania for decades to come.”
His last match at WrestleMania came in 2018, where he faced the Undertaker in a very quick match, but Cena didn’t reveal whether his appearance at WrestleMania in 2020 would be as a wrestler, or just for an in-ring segment.
