A couple of weeks ago on SmackDown, Elias was hit by a car in an angle which seemingly wrote him off TV. The storyline is that Elias suffered broken ribs, but in actual fact the injury is much worse.
Dave Meltzer has reported that Elias suffered a torn pectoral muscle prior to this angle taking place, and that he could now be out for up to 8 months with the injury, depending on whether he decided to undergo surgery or not.
“Generally that’s close to an eight month return, sometimes a little shorter, with surgery. Some don’t have surgery. Those in WWE confirmed the injury was legit but we have no confirmation of a surgery.”
Torn pectoral muscles are not uncommon in wrestling, with Triple H famously suffering a torn pec during his ill-fated tag match in Saudi Arabia in 2018.
It comes at a time when WWE is desperate for its top stars to remain healthy, as many are already refusing to compete due to the current global pandemic and the continued risk of infection.
As Elias’ gimmick is only partly ring-based, there is a chance we’ll see him back ahead of time, even if it’s just to play songs and insult future opponents.
We will keep you updated with any further news regarding Elias’ recovery and return date.
