Ever since the start of the pandemic, it has been clear that WWE higher-ups really want to hold SummerSlam in front of a paying audience away from the Performance Center.
However, with every passing week, the chances of the show being held at the Performance Center away from paying fans like WrestleMania 36 looks increasingly likely.
It was believed that WWE was hoping to have paying fans at shows by the end of July, but it has since been reported that those plans have been delayed as two events at the end of next month have been canceled.
Back to SummerSlam, reliable Twitter source WrestleVotes notes that just a few weeks ago, his source was confident that the show would be held away from the Performance Center with a paying audience.
However, a report published today has indicated that the source is now rather unsure of the plans WWE has for the show, with the event taking place at the Performance Center an option that is “very much on the table”.
Recently asked for an update on SummerSlam, source said 2 or 3 weeks ago he was certain WWE would find a way to do it w/ an audience. Today, very much unsure. As badly as they don’t want the event at the PC, unfortunately that’s very much on the table. Decision not yet imminent.

Holding SummerSlam away at the Performance Center with no audience would be a huge blow to WWE, but during these unique times, the safety of the wrestlers and fans must be of the utmost importance to the company.
