Following a shock return to the ring at the 2020 Royal Rumble, Edge competed in his first singles match in 11-years when he had a Last Man Standing match with former tag team partner, Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36.
The pair also had the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” at Backlash last month, a match that saw Edge suffer a torn triceps, an injury that will keep him out of the ring for several months.
Prior to his injury, it has been reported that Edge’s third singles match since returning would be at the SummerSlam pay-per-view in August, and would also be against fellow former WWE Champion, Randy Orton.
WrestleTalk exclusively reported that with Edge now out of the picture, Orton was pitching to work with people from NXT. However, due to the shortage of top heels on Raw, he is going to be facing Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship on the show.
Fans were excited to see Edge wrestle the likes of AJ Styles, Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns upon his return to the ring, and we now know the match that he is going to have WrestleMania 37, once he is fully recovered.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer is reporting that the current plan for WrestleMania 37, which obviously could change, is to have Edge and Randy Orton go head-to-head again:
“Right now, and this can change 100 times (it seemed television this week along changed that many times), the plan is for Edge vs. Orton in an I Quit match as one of the key matches for next WrestleMania. It was already scheduled for SummerSlam before the Backlash “Best in the World” match took place, but Edge’s injury made that impossible. Edge on Raw and Daniel Bryan on Smackdown both have significant creative influence.”
While it would be nice to see Edge and Randy Orton complete their feud next year, it would also be great to see Edge wrestle some he hasn’t worked with yet at the “show of shows” in 2020.
