Arn Anderson seems to always cover something newsworthy on his “Arn” podcast. This week was no different. He discussed Daniel Bryan’s firing back in 2010.
Daniel Bryan was fired after the Nexus debuted. Daniel Bryan, caught up in the moment, choked Justin Roberts with his own tie. At the time, WWE had banned any depictions of choking on television.
As a result, Daniel Bryan was fired and removed from The Nexus. Obviously, Daniel Bryan was brought back a short time later. The fairly quick turnaround in bringing Bryan back led many to think his firing was a work.
What does Arn think?
“I don’t think this was something that was planned from the beginning. I think he did get fired. 100% got fired but I think the backlash from the audience maybe caused him to rethink it and put it back together because Daniel would have never booked himself, if this was going to be just some phantom angle, he would not have booked himself for those other promoters because that is where his beginnings were. He was loyal to the indies. He was loyal to those promoters. He would not have booked himself with those companies knowing that he was going to cancel later. It doesn’t sound right to me. He was booking his living going forward figuring it was over for him in WWE. I think that the backlash caused him to rethink this and they put this angle together. They sat on it pretty good. So it was a surprise for the most part.”
So, it sounds like it was not a work. In the end, based on how things have worked out for those involved with The Nexus, it was probably a blessing in disguise for Bryan to work his way out of the group.
